Minor Book Characters

Living in the mountains has made Giorgi tough, surviving the elements and the troublesome nearby villages. An imposing man in a large fur jacket, his face hard and beard a wiry mess. He is unsure about the strange group that landed in his village, appearing out of the winter snow like ghosts.

Giorgi

A wide tanned face from being outside, hidden by a scraggly beard under a vibrant hat. His clothes like a patterned dressing gown made partly of leather. Finding the group outside the city walls, he helps them to their next destination. But recent losses make him see the group as an opportunity to correct what was taken from him.

Berke

As the garrison commander of the city, he always keeps his ear to the ground. Talk of turbulence in the capital worries him and he is keen to stop it spreading to his city. When two runaway slaves from the capital are caught, he sends them back straight away. Hoping it might calm things there, the only question is how did they make it so far and are there more lurking around here, ready to cause trouble?

Commander

As a sword master, Erkin oversees the training of the recruits at the sword palace. He started as a novice and rose to second in command, looking after the place when their leader was gone, which had become quite common lately. His brown eyes read another list of provision they would need to acquire. This role could be exhausting, the endless tedious work of making sure everyone was fed, warm and content. His hand rests on the metal handle of his sword, even though he isn’t that old, his thoughts ponder about moving on, finding something new, somewhere he could relax and let others worry about things.

Erkin

As leader of the Sword Palace, he is younger than most expect. But while Ju’s hair is grey, almost white, he still appears youthful. A loose green robe hangs from his body, with a blue belt strapped around his waist, the ends hanging by his side. Ju has a lot of questions for Logan, most of them bizarre. But not as strange as the way Ju reacts when he finds out that they were not from this time.   

Ju

With short black hair and a beard which matches his dark brown eyes, Khan Toghon Temür sits on his throne as leader of China. His fancy clothes made of silk and bright colours hide the troubles of leading such a vast empire. One that could be jeopardised by a mysterious group’s arrival in his capital city.

As second on command on the boat, Nari keeps everyone in line, any step out of line is punished. Taught from an early age how to fight, the short sword strapped to her black belt wasn’t just for show. It would also be of use if a pirate ship attacked, which had been a rising problem in the area. The empires slow response to this threat puzzling. Her brown eyes watch as a small boat makes its way out from the harbour, ferrying their passengers aboard, hopefully they knew what they were getting themselves into.

Nari

Finding a castaway group of boys on an atoll, Saoloa takes pity on them and lets them aboard his boat. As an island chief, he should be merciful to those less fortunate and lost in this wide and harsh world. There is something about them that he can’t quite figure out. Like they don’t belong in this world, in this time.
